No, you do not need a referral to see one of our physiotherapists. However, if your doctor has referred you, please bring all paperwork with you including any test results that may have been done (Ultrasounds, X-Rays, CT scans, MRI etc)
Please arrive a few minutes early as you will need to fill in some paperwork to register you on our systems. The physiotherapist will spend time with you to understand your history and any other information that will assist in the treatment programme. The therapist will perform a hands-on assessment to better understand your injury. He/she will arrive at a physiotherapy diagnosis and formulate and implement a treatment plan with your goals in mind. Finally, the physiotherapist will begin treatment.
This is variable depending on your diagnosis, the severity of your complaints and your response to treatment. Your progress will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and your goals revisited to ensure progress meets your expectations.
Wear comfortable and loose clothing so that you can expose the area that needs to be evaluated and treated. If you have a lower back or leg injury, it is a good idea to bring a pair of shorts. If you do not have, we also have shorts and patient gowns for you to change into.
The first assessment usually lasts 40 minutes to allow enough time for proper assessment and treatment. Ongoing physiotherapy treatments generally last 30 minutes spent with your physiotherapist. However please leave enough time for hot packs or ice after the treatment has finished, therefore it is best to plan for around 45 to 50 minutes for the full session.
The practice is linked with HICAPS, which allows you to claim your rebate from your health fund, directly from our practice. The gap does vary between the different health funds and your level of cover, so please check with your health fund to find out more about what is included in your plan and what your out of pocket expenses will be.
